Anne-Marie Brouse, RN Psychotherapist

Anne-Marie is a highly experienced Registered Nurse (RN) and RN Psychotherapist with over 20 years of experience specializing in mental health across the lifespan. She brings extensive education, knowledge, and clinical practice in the assessment and treatment of a wide range of mental health concerns, including mood and anxiety disorders, eating disorders, impulse-control disorders, and trauma and PTSD. A recent clinical focus is her personal passion for neurodevelopmental disorders.


Clinical Expertise and Approach

Anne-Marie’s clinical focus includes working with youth and adult populations, with specialization in child and adolescent mental health issues. She also has deep expertise in specific populations, including military members, first responders, and individuals coping with chronic and acute medical conditions (such as traumatic brain injuries or medical trauma).


She is highly trained and experienced in evidence-based therapeutic modalities, including:

  • Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT)
  • Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT)
  • Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT)
  • Motivational Interviewing (MI)
  • Case Management and Crisis Intervention


Anne-Marie is proficient in trauma-informed and anti-oppressive practices. A key strength of her practice style is her extensive knowledge of the medical management of psychiatric conditions from a holistic and anti-oppressive lens, coupled with a compassionate and authentic approach.


Professional Experience Highlights

Her diverse professional background includes roles as an RN Psychotherapist and a Mental Health Nurse with the Department of National Defense. She also served as a Registered Nurse with the Outpatient Mental Health Clinic at the Children's Hospital of Eastern Ontario (CHEO) for over a decade.


Beyond direct patient care, Anne-Marie has held significant leadership and education roles, including:

  • Assistant Director - Youth Justice at the Youth Services Bureau of Ottawa.
  • Professor of Nursing/Clinical Instructor at the University of Ottawa and Algonquin College.
  • Nursing Project Officer at Ottawa Public Health, involved in policy development and project management.


Education and Accreditations

Anne-Marie holds a Master of Science in Nursing (University of Ottawa), a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (University of Ottawa), and a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology (Queens University).


She holds a CNA Certification in Psychiatric Mental Health Nursing (since 2017) and is actively involved in the professional community, serving as an Executive Board Member for the Nurse Psychotherapist Association of Ontario.


Personal Interests

Outside of her professional life, Anne-Marie is a dedicated animal lover, nature enthusiast, and traveler. She is also a creative type with special interests in music, theatre, and art. She is a strong advocate for mental health in the community and volunteers with a not-for-profit organization providing accessible mental health support.
